Off piste skiing in Val d'Isère: freeride lessons with the esf
Off-piste skiing (or snowboarding) is practised outside the resort’s groomed, marked and supervised areas. Val d’Isère is particularly renowned for its off-piste skiing, as it is situated in the Tarentaise Valley, in the heart of the Vanoise National Park.

Skiers from all over the world come here to enjoy the off-piste skiing: high altitude, unique terrain and exceptional snow conditions. The esf Val d’Isère also offers you the chance to enjoy this through three options: off-piste group lessons, off-piste private lessons and The Team Off-Piste.

Off piste safety: equipment and supervision are compulsory

To make the most of the area’s many off-piste routes with the Val d’Isère esf (Ski School), you must always have the correct safety equipment to hand:

  • Avalanche Transceiver (DVA),
  • shovel,
  • probe,
  • airbag pack.

Aware of the risks involved, the Val d’Isère Ski School provides this safety off-piste ski equipment to all its pupils. To ensure even greater safety, freeride ski groups are also limited to a maximum of five people per instructor. That way, you can make the most of the best off-piste routes!

Off-piste routes and freeride skiing for advanced and expert skiers

Today, the Val d’Isère esf is offering three off-piste experiences with experienced ski instructors. You can choose from:

  • Off-piste group lessons: 1 or 3 mornings, from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm, for expert skiers / class 4; meet at 8.40 am at the esf Centre; 3 to 5 pupils; from €137.
  • Off-piste private lessons: over 5 or 6 days, for 1 to 8 hours, 1 to 5 pupils maximum, skiing or snowboarding.
  • The Off-Piste Team: expeditions and trips focusing on off-piste skiing in Val d’Isère, as well as in Japan, Central Asia, Norway and beyond.

With your state-qualified, multilingual instructor, you can more easily enjoy powder fields, valleys and couloirs off the beaten track. This professional has a thorough knowledge of the terrain and its risks (weather, snow conditions, mountain safety, etc.), ensuring optimum safety when skiing off-piste.

From the Grands Vallons to the Pisteurs’ Couloir, breathtaking ski landscapes await you in Val d’Isère. Book your lessons online now and discover the best off-piste spots with an esf instructor and expert freerider!
